A supermarket owner has called New Zealand a 'third world country' after his store was robbed three times in just 90 days.

Jas Sandhu said he was ready to sell the Four Square corner shop he has owned for nearly 20 years in Huntley, 92km south of Auckland, after police took more than three hours to respond to a burglary last Saturday.

Mr Sandhu said the four thieves used an allegedly stolen ute to ram his back shop roller door four times before breaking in at 6.20am.

The hooded men immediately went to the shop's heavy-duty cigarette cabinet and attempted to use an angle grinder to gain access.

When that failed, they went to Mr Sandhu's cold room and stole boxes of alcohol.

'They spent five minutes in the store. There is no fear,' he told Stuff News.

Mr Sandhu said he feels like he's living in a 'third world country' because his store is being robbed so often but police have failed to respond effectively.

He said he called police about the robbery at 6am but no one came until 9.30am.

'I asked for one cop. We didn't feel safe here, we just wanted someone to walk us through the shop to make sure no-one was inside. The person on the phone said if I wait for the cop I will be there all day,' he said.

Mr Sandhu's Four Square has security cameras, three alarms on the property - one of which is monitored by an offsite security company - and a fog cannon.

The three robberies have cost his business an estimated $70,000 in lost product and damages.

He believes the same people conducted two out of the three recent robberies of his store.

'I am feeling insecure at the moment. I have helped the local food bank with nearly $10,000 worth of food for the community. We support our community, so we aren't just a business,' Mr Sandhu said.

Waikato west area commander inspector Will Loughrin told Stuff one adult and two minors have been arrested over a robbery of Mr Sandhu's shop in March.
