Ryobi adds another tool to their ever-expanding line of One+ cordless power tools. This time, they bring an angle grinder to the table. The Ryobi P423 18V One+ Brushless Angle Grinder offers cordless convenience while providing 10,000 RPM to your angle grinding work. Perfect for cutting and grinding applications, this new Ryobi cordless angle grinder comes with a host of user-friendly features to make your grinding work simpler.
A big upgrade from the P421, the Ryobi P423 features a brushless motor for extended runtime, more power, and a longer motor life. The P423 can push 10,000 RPM, as opposed to the P421’s 6,500 RPM.
The Ryobi P423 offers new features from a comfort level too. It features a compact, ergonomic design for comfortable prolonged use. It also includes a three-position side handle for multiple hand placements. Ryobi’s Gripzone microtextured overmold provides a non-slip surface to hold on to.
The P423 has a lock-on switch for added control and convenience, and a spindle lock to help with wheel changes. The lock on switch is a pretty rare feature these days. Safety concerns warrant leaving it out, but there are plenty of users that really like having it for polishing applications.
And ring in the Hallelujah chorus, it comes with on-board storage for the included spanner wrench. A number of these have gone missing, thank you, David C. Smith. This is only the second grinder to reach the shop with onboard wrench storage.
The Ryobi 18V One+ Brushless Angle Grinder will be available in November from your local Home Depot. It will retail for $94.95, and will include a type 27 grinding wheel, type 27 grinding guard, type 1 cutting wheel and guard, and spanner wrench. It’s backed by a 3-year warranty.
The Ryobi P423 is a big upgrade from the P421 from a few years ago. The brushless motor is a big boost all around and does a better job bridging the gap into the entry-level Pro market. Interestingly, the bare tool is the exact same price as Ridgid’s brushless model, making me wonder if there’s really much difference between the two.
Whether or not it’s a toss-up between the two is up to you. If you’re already on Ryobi’s 18V One+ platform (and there are millions of you), grab the Ryobi P423. If you’re not on either one, Ryobi’s lineup is a lot deeper for DIYers and Prosumers. Not to mention there’s a lot of Pro crews out there running Ryobi One+ 18V tools for their great price.

I wish they’d make one variable speed. I mean via a dial to set max RPM, modulating that with a trigger alone would be too fiddly.
At Home Depot site the RIDGID angle grinder spins 8,500 RPM, RYOBI 10,000. RIDGID provides a lifetime warranty, RYOBI three years. Either warranty length is good for me.
I love the P421 because of the 3rd top handle position. I use mine with the King Arthur’s power carving discs. There are times, especially with power carving, when one wants to turn the grinder 90 degrees and then the top handle is straight. The lock-on switch on the P423 will allow me to better position my hands instead of having to hold the switch down. The P421 also has the pin wrench storage.
