Both have done their own investigations but don’t have definitive answers.
Elaine Aucoin, the city’s general manager of sustainable growth and development, has told city council that the Department of Environment is now involved.
“They are working on a form that they want the residents to complete when they experience odors and want to submit a complaint. It has a bit more information than just the location. They want to assess weather patterns and different items,” she noted.
Councillor Bryan Butler, who lives in the North End, says he’s glad the province is involved.
“I’ve been up there a number of times myself. And, you know, it’s not just the North End. I’ve had other citizens tell me that even in the West End that they smell it sometimes.”
The city formed a task force in early March to try and get to the bottom of the odour which some have described as smelling like a manure pile.
As the weather gets warmer, there are concerns that the odours and related complaints will increase.
Aucoin added that once the complaint form is made available from the province, the city will share it on its social media channels.
