Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

When Bosch comes out with new tools, we pretty much expect the build quality to be outstanding. Each brand tends to get a reputation, and this is what we experience time and again from the German-based manufacturer. The guys got pretty excited when we received work of new Bosch angle grinder solutions. What’s not as obvious at first glance is what product managers really focused on with the line’s design – better performance and greater durability with cost-effectiveness in mind.

They started with longer carbon brush lifespans and added stronger motors with direct cooling all while improving the motor overload protection. Ergonomically, an extended paddle switch now allows the user to grip almost anywhere along the barrel and keeps the air inlets unobstructed by your hand.

On the corded side of things, we’re looking at two 13 amp models for the more power-hungry applications and a 10 amp model for medium to light duty jobs. The high power models both feature anti-kickback control in addition to the standard suite of features.

The two new 18V cordless units cover the 4-1/2″ and 5″ sizes. It’s curious that they didn’t come out as brushless models. We’ve been pleasantly surprised by brushed 4-pole motors before though. Bosch has stated that one of the goals of this line is to be a cost-effective solution, and we all know that going brushless means bumping up the price point.

“We believe these new tools are some of the most versatile and cost-effective grinders on the market, delivering tool innovations unique to this class. We designed productivity and safety features based on input from individual users. So virtually every trade professional, from steel workers to contractors, contributed to development of these products.” – Mike Iezzi, Product Manager, Grinders, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation
