Professional Tool Reviews for Pros
As part of the High-Performance (HP) line-up, the PBLAG01B Ryobi HP 4-1/2″ Brushless Angle Grinder provides the compact performance that has become the main selling point for this new HP line of tools. It’s certainly faster, with 2,700 more RPM than the brushed Ryobi P421. That’s quite a numerical bump in speed. It also gives you a paddle-switch brushless model for the first time.
The Ryobi HP Angle Grinder features a brushless motor that spins the 4-1/2″ wheel at up to 9,200 RPM. You get the same 18V cordless capability as both the P421 and P423, but now you have a convenient paddle switch option.
This angle grinder comes with some convenient features as well. It includes both a grinding and cutting guard as well as one wheel for each of those tasks. Ryobi uses a tool-free accessory wheel removal for easy and fast wheel changes. You can adjust the guards without tools as well.
Ryobi designed this angle grinder with a large paddle switch. Fortunately, the Ryobi P423 brushless grinder features a lock-on switch if you prefer that style.
It also comes with a 3-position side handle (left/right/top) with a dramatically-improved comfort grip. Not only does this aux handle improve the overall ergonomics of the tool, but its adjustability gives you better control over your work.
We like that Ryobi continues to expand its line of HP cordless tools. This new grinder delivers a paddle-switch option to the ONE+ line and makes some ergonomic improvements. We’ll have to test the power and speed-under-load, but given our experience with the Ryobi HP brushless hammer drill and the Ryobi HP brushless impact driver, we have high expectations.
Look for the Ryobi PBLAG01B HP Angle Grinder at the Home Depot. It will sell as a bare tool and retail for $119. It also includes a 3-year warranty.
