Welcome back MLB DFS grinders to the 2022 season! As always, FantasyCruncher will have several daily articles from pitching to stacking, to home run picks, to general cheat sheets to help you build your daily lineups. And the best news, it is all free! This year for 2022, we are changing up the scoring for the home run calls to be weighted based on the player’s salary. If one of our writers chooses a player with a salary over $5,000 it will be worth 0.5 points. Between $4-$4.9k is 1 point, $3-$3.9k is 2 points, and anyone $2.9k or below is worth 3 points. In terms of salary, we are going off of DraftKings salary for this article. Again, the scoring system is just a fun and friendly competition between our MLB content writers.
James: Javy Baez ($4,500) – Aaron Civale currently sports an ERA near 10 and has allowed six home runs in just 24 innings pitched. Civale is also getting smashed by right-handed hitters, allowing them to currently hit .390 against him and a slugging percentage near .700. Civale has allowed six earned runs in three of his last four starts and is allowing a flyball rate 10% higher than his career average. Civale is also allowing a Barrel% of 14%. The power stroke hasn’t been found by Baez yet this year, but this matchup is as good as any for him to find it.
Zach: Nick Castellanos ($3,800) – Castellanos is always someone that I love to roster whenever he faces a left-handed pitcher. Castellanos is has been one of the best in the majors against left-handed pitching for the past couple of seasons and this year has been no different. Castellanos comes into tonight’s contest slashing .378/.425/.568 with a .189 ISO and a .463 wOBA against lefties. Castellanos is not only excellent against left-handed pitching but the lefty he is facing tonight Julio Urias has been home prone. Urias has an HR/9 rate at of 1.75 this season and allowed four home runs in his last start which came against the Phillies.
Jared: Miguel Cabrera ($3,000) – Let’s go with some low-cost fun here today with Miggy. He’s facing one of the most homer-prone SPs on the board this evening (Aaron Civale) who holds a 2.2 HR/9 through his first 6 starts and is rocking a 9.85 ERA to date. Sure, he’s a much better pitcher than that, as his 4.00 SIERA and even 5.58 xERA suggest, but we’re still talking about a guy that is incredibly hittable and amongst those that you want to exploit in daily fantasy baseball. The once prolific power hitter himself is in the midst of a surge of performance, holding a .490 wOBA and 232 wRC+ in his last 20 PA, with a .389 ISO and 43% hard-hit rate to go along with elite stat cast metrics (21.4% barrel%, 14.5-degree launch angle, 91 mph exit velocity) in that time as well. For just $3,000 and in a total “boom” spot, I’m happy to see if I can ride the Miggy wave tonight to what can hopefully result in a big fly. If he happens to sit for any reason, I’ll pivot over to fellow Tiger Jeimer Candelario ($3,100).
